How often should you maintain your pool?

Every week, ideally on the same day, you:

• Measure pH and chlorine (test strips or an electronic tester).
• Empty the baskets in the skimmers and the pump pre-filter.
• Brush the waterline if it's staining.
• Check the filter pressure.

Fifteen minutes is enough. The secret is regularity: one missed week often doubles the amount of product needed to catch up.

Once a month:

• Backwash the sand filter (or clean the cartridge).
• Full test: pH, chlorine, alkalinity, stabiliser.
• Light shock treatment if the water starts to look off.
• Inspect the plant room: leaks, unusual noises, limescale.

If a point feels unclear, a 30-minute water quality check sets everything straight.

Four visits structure the year in the Var:

• March: spring start-up.
• June: deep filter clean, equipment check.
• September: pool clean before the end of the season.
• November: winterising.

Do these four visits properly and your weekly maintenance stays very light.

A one-off maintenance visit costs between €70 and €120. An annual plan is often cheaper than an emergency clean-up after green water.

• Over-dosing chlorine out of fear it isn't enough.
